Peñíscola is one of the easiest and most rewarding day trips from Valencia — and honestly, it feels like stepping into a movie set (which it literally is). Coming from Valencia’s main town, here’s a clear, practical, and inspiring guide to help you picture the experience. --- 🌊 Peñíscola from Valencia: What It’s Like & Why It’s Worth It ⭐ What makes Peñíscola special Peñíscola is a fortified seaside town crowned by a dramatic castle on a rocky peninsula. It’s famous for: - The Papa Luna Castle (14th century) perched above the Mediterranean - Game of Thrones filming locations (Meereen) - Whitewashed old town with narrow, photogenic alleys - Long sandy beaches perfect for strolling - Seafood restaurants with cliffside views It’s compact, walkable, and incredibly scenic — perfect for a half-day or full-day escape. --- 🚗 How to get there from Valencia: 1. By car (fastest & most flexible) - Travel time: 1 hr 30 min – 1 hr 45 min - Route: A7 highway (easy, straightforward) - Parking: Several lots near the beach and port This is the best option if you want to explore at your own pace. 2. By train - Take a Renfe train from Valencia to Benicarló-Peñíscola - Travel time: 1 hr 20 min – 1 hr 40 min depending on train type - From the station: 10–15 min taxi or bus to the old town Comfortable and reliable. 3. By bus - Direct buses from Valencia to Peñíscola - Travel time: 2 hrs – 2 hrs 15 min - Cheapest option, but slower --- 🏰 What to do once you arrive 1. Visit Papa Luna Castle The highlight. Expect: - Panoramic sea views - Medieval architecture - Game of Thrones filming spots - A breezy walk along the fortress walls 2. Wander the Old Town Think: - White houses - Blue doors - Flower pots - Artisan shops - Hidden viewpoints It’s small but full of charm. 3. Walk the seaside promenade A long, clean, beautiful stretch of beach — perfect for relaxing or grabbing a drink. 4. Eat by the sea Try: - Arroz a banda - Fideuà - Fresh seafood - Local pastries like pastissets --- 🕒 How much time you need A half-day is enough to see the essentials. A full day is ideal if you want to: - Swim - Have a long lunch - Explore the beaches - Take your time in the old town --- 🌅 Best time to go - Morning for cooler weather and fewer crowds - Late afternoon for golden-hour photos and a sunset by the castle

Segovia, Spain: The Cathedral, Alcazar, and Roman Aqueduct

If you are in Madrid, make it a point to take that trip to the nearby Segovia. It is another historic place minus the hustle and bustle of the busy capital. We tried both transportation means. First, we took the bus, which was an hour-and-a-half ride. It was only EUR4 per person for a departure at 11 AM. Returning, we rode the fast train at only EUR14 per passenger departing at 5:30 PM. The other options are whole-day packaged tours, including bus fares, to and fro. Get Your Guide offers convenient choices for activities and fares in Segovia. The bus ride offered nice views of what lies outside of Madrid. The train windows were closed throughout the trip because it was super hot! In fact, it was a bit warm inside the train. Our first stop was the Alcazar de Segovia, which was said to be the inspiration behind Disneyland's castles. You can see it in the video and you can tell why.  The true feast to the eyes was the Segovia Cathedral. In the video, we had a lengthy portion that sho...
