Malacca 2021: A Pandemic Birthday Trip

Image
Going to Melaka for our birthday trip was a good decision. We were thinking twice because, as we all know, we are still in the middle of a pandemic. However, things have improved here since October. So, we thought it was worth the risk since we had been travel-deprived for nearly two years. Besides, we did not want to miss another birthday trip, something we traditionally do each year. Then off we went. For the first day, also my birthday, we went to Seoul Garden for a Korean buffet lunch. I ate seafood, while the boys had chicken and beef to go with the banchan. After lunch, we headed to the Christ Church Malacca, an 18th-century Anglican church. It is the oldest functioning Protestant church in Malaysia. The ruins of St. Paul’s Church at the summit of St. Paul's Hill. Portuguese captain Duarte Coelho constructed the church that has been in ruins for more than 150 years. One can reach the ruins after a steep flight of stairs near the remains of the A’ Famosa fort. We visited the M...

HAPPY WORLD TOURISM DAY! SEPTEMBER 27 This day promotes awareness of the need for accessible tourism.  World Tourism Day is the project of the UN’s specialized agency — the World Tourism Organization (WTO) to boost local economies and ensuring sustainable tourism.  Whether it's by plane, car, train, bus, bike, or foot, the world is open for everyone to see and enjoy! Oldies in New Jersey Enjoying in Atlantic City

Image
Panoramic shot of Atlantic City in New Jersey Old things remain old. Even if you're in New Jersey. Haha!  What do I mean by that? Let me link that intro to a sweet reunion between me and my old high school pal, Geralene. I was bored in Long Island when I suddenly thought that she lives only an hour away. So I decided to call her and arrange a quick meet-up that same day. I boarded the train to meet her that afternoon. I patted my back because I realized I could commute by myself! Haha! It was strange riding the train to another state for the first time, albeit it was short. I noticed that there was no one to check the tickets. Anyway, I finally saw Ge, as I fondly call her, after more than 20 years. Nothing changed! It's the same old her: bubbly and chatty. She talked like we were still in high school. She is now a successful head nurse in a health facility in NJ. I'm proud of her. She was one of the top students in our class.  She asked me where I wanted to go. I said I wa...

Coming to Prague, Czech Republic in the Time of Pandemic

Image
The nearby park overlooking the scenic city of Prague. Proof of life or should I say lessons on faith. My coming to Czechia is all how the universe connive. It was a far idea that I will work in Europe as there was not much opportunity. I already have a plan for what I will do in my life. The planner in me has set it an A-Z option. Then, the pandemic came. So, I stayed a little longer in the Philippines. But the last few months were the most memorable and heartwarming on how the universe moves in mysterious ways. In between, a friend shared with me this opportunity which I have also seen before but there’s something that discouraged me. It was a nudge that made me realize this is Europe and I am very vocal about how I want to live here. Cutting into the chase, I got it and I didn’t know how hard it was for them fighting for my position. Of course, a lot is hard on my end, but I am positive that it’s all going to be worth it because basically, I fulfilled an almost impossible thought of...
