It's here!!! Jollibee opens its first branch in West Malaysia

Image
For this kid, indeed, joy has arrived. The writer had the first dibs at Jollibee's sweet spaghetti, the famous Chickenjoy, and the gravy that goes perfectly with the crispy and flavorful signature chicken. It was a privilege to be invited to the press launch before the store finally opens to the public on February 8 at Sunway Pyramid Mall in Selangor. Locals and even foreigners alike warmly welcome the fast-food giant, which has created a buzz since the posting of teasers and countdowns on its Facebook page. But for sure, no one gets more excited about this opening than a Filipino living in West Malaysia, especially those in the Klang Valley. The restaurant's opening means they no longer have to miss the familiar hunger-inducing aroma of the local fast-food favorite. To some, it also means a little atmosphere of home, the Philippines, where Jollibee began.    International operations manager, Rodel Alcantara, who came from the Philippines, mentioned that 50 Jollibee sto...

Malacca 2021: A Pandemic Birthday Trip

Image
Going to Melaka for our birthday trip was a good decision. We were thinking twice because, as we all know, we are still in the middle of a pandemic. However, things have improved here since October. So, we thought it was worth the risk since we had been travel-deprived for nearly two years. Besides, we did not want to miss another birthday trip, something we traditionally do each year. Then off we went. For the first day, also my birthday, we went to Seoul Garden for a Korean buffet lunch. I ate seafood, while the boys had chicken and beef to go with the banchan. After lunch, we headed to the Christ Church Malacca, an 18th-century Anglican church. It is the oldest functioning Protestant church in Malaysia. The ruins of St. Paul’s Church at the summit of St. Paul's Hill. Portuguese captain Duarte Coelho constructed the church that has been in ruins for more than 150 years. One can reach the ruins after a steep flight of stairs near the remains of the A’ Famosa fort. We visited the M...

Oldies in New Jersey Enjoying in Atlantic City

Image
Panoramic shot of Atlantic City in New Jersey Old things remain old. Even if you're in New Jersey. Haha!  What do I mean by that? Let me link that intro to a sweet reunion between me and my old high school pal, Geralene. I was bored in Long Island when I suddenly thought that she lives only an hour away. So I decided to call her and arrange a quick meet-up that same day. I boarded the train to meet her that afternoon. I patted my back because I realized I could commute by myself! Haha! It was strange riding the train to another state for the first time, albeit it was short. I noticed that there was no one to check the tickets. Anyway, I finally saw Ge, as I fondly call her, after more than 20 years. Nothing changed! It's the same old her: bubbly and chatty. She talked like we were still in high school. She is now a successful head nurse in a health facility in NJ. I'm proud of her. She was one of the top students in our class.  She asked me where I wanted to go. I said I wa...
